Languages courses

As capital of Europe, Brussels is a melting pot of languages. There are more than one hundred organisations offering language courses. Courses are offered by various organisations, including private language schools, municipalities, the Flemish and French-speaking Communities and the Chamber of Commerce (which runs courses in cooperation with the two Brussels universities VUB and ULB).

To find out about language courses in Brussels, try the following sources :

  • The Service d'Information sur les Etudes et les Professions (SIEP) has information on French language courses on its website http://langues.siep.be
  • For information on courses in Dutch in Brussels, contact the Dutch Language House of Brussels www.huisnederlandsbrussel.be, Philippe de Champagnestraat 23, 1000 Brussels, 02 501 66 60, info@huisnederlandsbrussel.be. The aim of this organisation is to encourage people to speak Dutch in Brussels by pointing them in the direction of a Dutch course that fits their needs. Information on courses is available in English, as well as Dutch and French. Most of the classes are organised in Flemish community centres across Brussels.
  • Other Dutch spoken courses (for example sports or artisanry)  can be found by using the search engine http://www.vgc.be/Site+structuur/cursusaanbod.html of the Flemish Community Commission (Vlaamse Gemeenschapscommissie, VGC).
  • The Brussels Chamber of Commerce offers a range of language courses in cooperation with the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and the Université Libre de Bruxelles. More information at www.vub.ac.be/khnb and www.epfc-bxl.org
  • The websites www.wordwatjewil.be (Dutch-language) and www.dorifor.be (French language) have extensive information on courses in Brussels, including language courses
